Summary
- ViDash AI records video and runs detection (vehicles, lanes, traffic signs, collision warnings) on your phone.
- **By default, the only thing we collect is the sign data without identifiers described in section 6.**
- The app has no account.
- It has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
- Your video, photos, route and all other data stay on your phone. We never receive a copy.
- **"Chia sẻ dữ liệu biển báo" (Share sign data) is turned on when you accept the Terms of Use on first launch.** While it is on, the app sends our server the speed signs the camera read with certainty: the sign's type and value, its position rounded to about 11 m, the direction of travel, and the date. It sends at most once a day, with no name, account or device identifier. You can turn it off at any time in Settings, free of charge. See section 6.
- You can view, share and delete your data at any time. Deleting the app deletes the data inside it.
- Pro is paid through the App Store or Google Play. We never receive your card number or payment details.
1. Who runs the app
Operator: Banh Mi App, email support@banhmiapp.com.
Independent developer; seller name shown on the App Store: Hung Huynh Chi.
In this policy, "we" means the operator and "you" means the person using the app.
2. Where your data is processed
All processing happens on your phone: recording, storage, AI detection and speed calculation. The app does not send your personal data to us or to anyone else, except sign data while "Chia sẻ dữ liệu biển báo" (Share sign data) is on (section 6).
The app connects to a network only in these cases:
- Buying or restoring Pro. Your phone talks to the App Store (Apple) or Google Play through their own billing systems.
- External dashcam ("Camera rời"). If you use this feature, the phone connects to your own dashcam over the camera's Wi-Fi network. It does this to list files and to copy photos and videos from the camera to the phone. This connection stays on the local network between the phone and the camera; it does not go out to the Internet.
- Links you tap. Examples are the OpenStreetMap copyright page, licence pages and the subscription management page. They open in your browser or app store.
- Sign-data sharing, while it is on (section 6): on by default when you accept the Terms of Use, and can be turned off in Settings. At most once a day, the app sends a list of speed signs to our server at
banhmiapp.comover an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
The app downloads no maps or data while it runs. Map and traffic-sign data come bundled with the app and change only when you update the app.
3. Data processed on your phone
| Data | What it is used for | Where it is kept, and for how long | How to turn it off or delete it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rear camera images | Recording video; detecting vehicles, lanes and signs; the driving screen | Frames are processed in memory and dropped at once. Only what is recorded as video is kept. | Deny camera access. The app cannot work without it. |
| Trip video and audio | The dashcam function | In the app, on a loop: at the storage limit, the oldest unlocked clip is deleted first. Locked clips are kept until you delete them. A clip is locked by you, or by the app on a hazard or a hard impact. | Delete in "Clip & sự kiện" (Clips & events). Choose alerts-only mode to stop recording. Deny the microphone to record video without sound. |
| Video stamp | Date, time, speed and logo are printed into the picture by default. GPS coordinates and the speed limit are printed only if you turn them on (off by default). | Part of the video's pixels, so it goes with every copy you share. | Settings › Ghi hình (Recording) › Đóng dấu lên video (Video stamp). |
| Snapshots | Saving a moment on the road | In the app until you delete them. On iPhone, a copy goes to Photos only if you have already allowed it. On Android, a copy also goes to the phone's gallery (DashcamAI folder). | Delete in the app; delete gallery copies in the gallery. |
| GPS location: coordinates, speed, heading | Vehicle speed; time gap to the car ahead; lane-departure and over-speed warnings; dropping an old sign after a turn; the coordinate stamp if you turn it on | Used only while the app is open. Not stored as a route. The exceptions are the remembered sign data (next row), the signs waiting to be sent while sharing is on, and the coordinate stamp if you turn it on. | Turn GPS off in the app's Settings, or turn off location access in your phone's settings. The forward-collision warning keeps working. |
| Remembered sign data | Recognising verified speed signs on later trips | On the phone: the position, heading and value of each speed sign the camera has read, with the times of the trips that confirmed it. At most 5,000 signs; beyond that the oldest is dropped. This data can show places you have driven past. | Turn off "Dùng dữ liệu biển đã xác minh" (Use verified sign data) and nothing more is recorded. Tap "Xóa dữ liệu biển đã ghi nhớ" (Clear remembered sign data) to delete it. Both are in Settings › Biển báo & tốc độ (Signs & speed). |
| Signs waiting to be sent (while "Chia sẻ dữ liệu biển báo" is on) | Sending to our server to improve the sign data (section 6) | On the phone until sent: one entry per sign, position already rounded, with how many times it was seen and the latest date. At most 2,000 entries; an entry not seen again for 30 days is dropped. Deleted from the phone once sent. | Turning off "Chia sẻ dữ liệu biển báo" (Settings › Biển báo & tốc độ) stops sending and deletes them at once. |
| Motion sensors | Finding the mount angle; adjusting the horizon automatically; noticing a hard impact to lock the clip | Not stored. Only the camera setup result (height, angle) is kept. | Deny motion access (iPhone). |
| Trip and event records | The list of trips and clips; notes for event clips | Start and end times of each trip and the list of video segments. For an event: its type and time, the shortest distance, and the signs in force. No coordinates. Deleted with the clip or the app. | Delete clips in "Clip & sự kiện". |
| External dashcam: Wi-Fi name, password, downloaded files | Connecting to your camera and copying its photos and videos | iPhone: the Wi-Fi name and password you type are kept in the phone's Keychain. Android: the password is not stored. Downloaded files stay in the app until you delete them. | Delete files in "Clip & sự kiện"; delete the app. |
| Pro subscription status | Knowing whether you have an active subscription | Provided to the app by the App Store or Google Play on your phone. Not sent anywhere. | Manage it in the App Store or Google Play. |
The app does not read your contacts or messages. From your photo library and the Files app, it reads only the videos or photos you pick to import, such as clips from an external dashcam. It uses no advertising identifier or device identifier. It does not recognise faces or number plates. Vehicle detection finds a box around each vehicle to estimate distance; it does not read plates and does not store pictures of vehicles.
4. Purpose and consent
The app processes the data in section 3 only to provide the feature you are using. There is no other purpose: no advertising, no profiling and no sale of data.
You consent to each kind of processing through your operating system's permission prompts:
- camera;
- microphone;
- location;
- motion (iPhone);
- adding to Photos;
- local network (iPhone);
- nearby Wi-Fi devices (Android).
Before each prompt, the app shows a screen explaining what the permission is for. You can refuse, or withdraw consent at any time in your phone's settings. Features that do not need that permission keep working; for example, without location the forward-collision warning still runs.
Sign-data sharing is described in section 17 of the Terms of Use, and you accept it together with the terms on first launch. Sharing is on by default; if you had already declined it before, it stays off. You can turn it off at any time in Settings, free of charge, whatever your plan. Turning it off stops sending at once and deletes the signs not yet sent. Details are in section 6.
We treat your location as sensitive personal data. That is why:
- the app uses location only while it is open on screen, never in the background;
- your location does not leave your phone, except the rounded positions of traffic signs while sharing is on (section 6);
- you can turn GPS off inside the app without deleting the app;
- the remembered sign data and the signs waiting to be sent, the only two things that store locations, each have their own switch, and turning it off deletes them.
5. Sharing
We do not share, sell or rent your data. Apart from the sign data described in section 6, we hold none of your data.
Data leaves the app only when you move it:
- by tapping "Chia sẻ" (Share), "Lưu vào Ảnh" (Save to Photos) or "Lưu vào thư viện" (Save to gallery);
- by copying files to a computer.
From then on, the policy of the app or service that receives the file applies. Remember that the video stamp goes with the file: date, time, speed, and coordinates if you turned them on.
In addition, the app sends sign data while "Chia sẻ dữ liệu biển báo" (Share sign data) is on: it is on by default when you accept the Terms of Use, and can be turned off in Settings (section 6).
Backups:
- iPhone: your iCloud or computer backups may contain the app's data, under Apple's settings and policies. With the iPhone connected to a computer, you can also see and copy the app's videos through File Sharing in Finder or iTunes.
- Android: the app opts out of Android cloud backup, so the data inside the app is not backed up to Google.
We may have to provide information when a competent authority requires it by law. We can provide only what we actually have (see sections 6 and 7).
6. Sharing sign data
This sharing is described in section 17 of the Terms of Use. It is on by default once you accept the terms on first launch. Both free and Pro users can turn it off at any time, free of charge (see "Consent and withdrawal" below).
Purpose. To make the speed-sign data the app shows more complete and more accurate, for every ViDash AI user. Signs sent by many people are combined on our computers, checked against each other and against other sources, and then added to the sign data bundled with later versions of the app. There is no other purpose: no advertising, no profiling, no sale of data.
Only signs your camera read with certainty during a drive are sent. The app never sends speed limits taken from the bundled map data or from the phone's sign memory. Each sign sent contains:
| Field | Example | Precision |
|---|---|---|
| Sign type | speed limit, end of limit, start or end of a built-up area | |
| Value | 60 (km/h) | speed-limit signs only |
| Position of the sign | 10.7294, 106.7184 | rounded to 4 decimal places, about 11 m |
| Direction of travel | 90° | rounded to 10° |
| Lane | car lanes, mixed lane, or unknown | from GPS |
| Certainty | high, medium, low | three levels |
| Date seen | 2026-10-05 | date only (the latest), no time |
| Times seen | 2 | how many times you passed that sign since the last upload, at most 99 |
Each upload also carries the app version, the operating system (iOS or Android) and the version of the sign-reading model.
Never sent: video, photos, audio, your route, your vehicle's speed, times of day, your name, email, account, device identifier or advertising identifier. Signs within 300 m of the start and end of each drive are not sent, so the data does not reveal where you live or work. The signs in one upload are put in a fixed order (date, type, value, position), so they do not show the order in which you passed them.
When it is sent. The app collects the signs on the phone, one entry per sign, and sends them at most once a day when there are new ones. If 200 or more signs have been collected, it may send sooner, but at least 6 hours after the previous upload. Each upload holds at most 200 signs. The app never sends while you are driving, and retries at most 3 times a day if the network fails. The connection is always encrypted (HTTPS). The data sent has no time of day, and the server stores only the date it was received.
No identifiers. Nothing in the data says who you are, and the server does not store IP addresses. The IP address is used only at the moment of receipt, to stop floods of requests: it is turned into a hash with a secret key that changes every day, kept only in temporary memory and never written anywhere. Even so, one upload is a group of signs that one person passed within about a day. We make no attempt to identify that person, we do not link uploads to each other, and nobody else can read this data: the server has no public page or address that returns it.
Consent and withdrawal. On first launch, the "Tính năng và miễn trừ trách nhiệm" (Features and disclaimer) screen summarises the Terms of Use, including this sharing. To continue, you must tick "Tôi đã đọc và đồng ý Điều khoản sử dụng và Chính sách quyền riêng tư" (I have read and agree to the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy); the box is not ticked in advance. When you accept, sharing is turned on. If you had already declined sharing before, including leaving the sharing box empty in an earlier version, the app keeps that choice. People who installed an earlier version see this screen once at their next launch. You can turn sharing off at any time in Settings › Biển báo & tốc độ › "Chia sẻ dữ liệu biển báo", free of charge, whatever your plan. Turning it off stops sending at once and deletes from the phone every sign not yet sent, including those of a drive in progress. Turning it on again there shows an explanation screen, and sharing starts only when you tap "Đồng ý chia sẻ" (Agree to share). The app stores your choice on the phone, with its time, the version of the purpose described here, and a note when the choice came from accepting the terms. If the purpose changes, the app stops sending until you agree again. With sharing off, every feature of the app works as before.
Retention. On the server, each upload is kept as received for at most 24 months from the date it was received, then deleted. The combined result from many people, that is, the position and value of each sign on the road, may be kept longer, because it is data about roads, not about a person. Signs already sent are not linked to you, so we cannot find your part to delete it separately; signs not yet sent can be deleted at once, as described above.
Processor and location. The server that receives the data and the database run on infrastructure of Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Workers and D1). Cloudflare processes the data on our behalf, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. Cloudflare's servers may be outside Vietnam; the database is located in the Asia-Pacific region. This data is therefore transferred outside Vietnam.
7. Paying for Pro
Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) sells the subscription and processes the payment. They keep your card, name and payment account under their own policies:
The app only asks the App Store or Google Play, on your phone, whether you have an active subscription.
Apple and Google send us sales reports under their own policies, for revenue reconciliation. These reports may include an order ID, country, date, amount and other information the store provides under its own policies. We use them only for accounting, tax duties, and helping you when you contact us (for example about a refund). We keep them for as long as accounting and tax law requires.
8. Retention and deletion
- Video loops within the storage limit you choose. "Tự động" (Automatic) means at most 10 GB and at most 20% of free space. Locked clips and snapshots are kept until you delete them.
- Remembered sign data is kept until you delete it, up to 5,000 signs.
- Signs waiting to be sent (when sharing is on) are deleted once sent, when not seen again for 30 days, or as soon as you turn sharing off. Retention on the server: see section 6.
- Deleting parts of your data:
- videos, clips, snapshots and external-camera files: in "Clip & sự kiện";
- sign data and signs waiting to be sent: in Settings › Biển báo & tốc độ;
- settings: "Khôi phục cài đặt mặc định".
- Deleting everything: delete the app. This removes all videos, photos, trips, sign data and settings inside the app. Three things remain afterwards:
- copies you moved out yourself, including snapshots Android copied to the gallery;
- your iCloud or computer backups;
- on iPhone, the items in the phone's Keychain: the external camera's Wi-Fi name and password.
- Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. See how to cancel.
9. Your rights
Under Vietnamese personal data protection law, you have these rights:
- to be informed about processing;
- to give or withdraw consent;
- to access, correct and delete your data;
- to restrict or object to processing;
- to complain, denounce, sue and claim compensation.
Because most of your data stays on your phone, you exercise most of these rights yourself, in the app and in your phone's settings, as described in sections 3 and 8. For sign data, you withdraw consent with the "Chia sẻ dữ liệu biển báo" switch (section 6). You can also contact us at support@banhmiapp.com with any privacy question. We try to reply as soon as we can.
10. Security
The app's data sits in the private storage area the operating system gives the app. It is encrypted with the phone's storage while the phone is locked. Set a screen-lock passcode: anyone who can unlock your phone can watch the videos in the app.
Most stand-alone dashcams support only unencrypted connections on their own Wi-Fi network. The app allows unencrypted connections only to the camera's own address; every other connection must be encrypted, including the sign-data upload. On the server, only we can read the sign data, with our own administrator account.
11. Children
The app is made for drivers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
12. Video of other people
Trip video can capture other road users, vehicles, number plates and voices. The app does not identify any of them. You are responsible for recording, keeping and sharing video lawfully, in particular under the rules on a person's right to their image and on personal data. Share video only when needed, for example with the authorities or an insurer.
13. Third-party data inside the app
The app bundles three sources of map and traffic-sign data:
- OpenStreetMap, under ODbL 1.0;
- Mapillary, under CC BY-SA 4.0;
- expressway speed-limit decisions issued by Vietnamese authorities.
This is data about roads and signs, not about you. The app sends nothing to these parties. Credits and licences are in the app under Settings › Thông tin (Information) › Nguồn dữ liệu & giấy phép (Data sources & licences).
14. Changes
When this policy changes, we publish the new version on this page and update the effective date. We announce important changes in the app or in the release notes.
If the purpose or content of sign-data sharing changes, the app will ask you again before sending anything more. Any new feature that sends data off the phone will stay off until you give separate consent, and we will update this policy before it ships.
